Monnit Launches Low-Cost, Wireless Current Meters for Managing Real-Time Power Consumption

wireless 20 Amp AC current meter

Salt Lake City, Utah – November 4, 2015 – Monnit Corporation (www.monnit.com) today, announced new low-cost, wireless AC current meters which serve to dramatically change how power consumption can be tracked and monitored remotely.

“The AC Current Meter represents a breakthrough in the ability for businesses to understand and manage power consumption,” said Brad Walters, CEO of Monnit Corp. “Building and facility managers can gain unprecedented insight into a building’s HVAC nervous system anytime, from anywhere in real-time. There is no other solution on the market with these capabilities, at this valued price-point.”

Applications for corporate real estate and building management systems include the ability to precisely provide preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, machinery and equipment as needed. “When a motor is about to fail, it takes more power to run. This wireless current meter helps calculate where and when there is an issue that needs attention,” Walters added.

Monnit’s new wireless AC current meters measure and track minimum, maximum and average RMS currents, and amp hours. They are also capable of returning watt hour or kilowatt hour readings using the iMonnit online monitoring software. Installation is also quick and safe. Monnit’s wireless sensors communicate with wireless gateways up to 300 feet (non-line-of-sight) away so no hard-wiring is needed and the current transducer is installed by simply clamping it around the power wire with no cutting or splicing required.

This new sensor also enables building managers and owners to demonstrate compliance with a number of LEED v4 requirements. For instance, the Minimum Energy Performance credit, which is intended to “reduce the environmental and economic harms of excessive energy use by achieving a minimum level of energy efficiency for the building and its systems,” requires that buildings demonstrate a 5 percent reduction of energy usage in the proposed performance rating over the base performance rating, with a minimum of 2 percent of that 5 percent coming from building power and cooling infrastructure.

Like all Monnit wireless sensors, the AC Current Meters include free basic iMonnit online sensor monitoring, which allows for customization of sensor operation and reviewing sensor data from any web enabled device, such as computers, tablets or smart phones. The system can also send notifications via text, email or voice call if user defined conditions are met or exceeded.

Monnit Wireless AC Current Meter Features

  • Measures amp hours, max RMS current, min RMS current, and average RMS current.
  • Three different current transducers available:
  • Capable of generating Watt Hour or Kilowatt Hour readings using iMonnit.
  • Data logging for accumulated readings.
  • Can notify based on current levels or changes in current levels.
  • Simple and safe installation.

Monnit also provides wireless sensors to OEM’s and Reseller’s through our IoTvantage Partner Program, which allows for white labeling (private branding) of both the wireless sensor hardware and the online monitoring software. Information on becoming a partner can be found at Monnit.com/Partner.
