Slapshot: Monnit’s Novel Puck Sensor Wins a 2020 Vision Award

vision award winning

The ALTA® Wireless Water Detection Puck wins a coveted 2020 Vision Award for FM Building Services/Tools. Trade Press Media Group, home of publications such as Facility Maintenance Decisions magazine, hosts the Vision Awards program.

“It’s an honor to be a repeat winner by offering the type of support that facility managers need,” said Brad Walters, Monnit CEO. “These are the professionals tasked with protecting both facilities and wellness in these unprecedented times.”

Many Entered, Few Won
Some 150 products were submitted to 10 categories; the puck was one 30 winners. Consisting of facilities executives, the Vision Awards judges evaluated winners for:

  • cost savings
  • efficiency/productivity
  • technological advancements
  • tenant satisfaction

Instant Detection, Instant Action
Hockey pucks rocket up to 110.3 MPH—Monnit’s sensor is similarly swift. The fully submersible puck sets up in less than 15 minutes. Upon detecting water presence or absence, a user alert is issued via text, email, or call.

The Water Detection Puck sensor joins the FM-recognized ALTA Insure and ALTA Gas Sensors, each won 2019 Vision Awards.

What's New

Glycol Temperature Buffer

Clinicians and Kitchen Managers have a new Temperature Monitoring Tool

Data accuracy is almost as crucial in food service and health care as using temperature sensors are to cut failure off at the pass. False alarms that are often triggered by frequent refrigeration in/outs are, at best, annoying. At their worst, staff quickly overlooks multiple false alarms, setting the stage for an actual issue (such as a compressor failure) to go unaddressed.

To minimize false alarms, Monnit is adding a new Glycol Temperature Buffer to its line of accessories, which includes the popular Glass Bead Vial. The glycol buffer consists of a compact plastic bottle filled with a 60/40 glycol and distilled water mix to closely mimic the temperature of common ingredients, vaccines, and biological samples.

For Data Accuracy, Think Pink
The new Glycol Temperature Buffer can support clinics and hospitals tasked with COVID-19 testing and treatment while simultaneously administering flu vaccines.

In its highly regarded Pink Book, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention outlines best practices for vaccine storage and temperature monitoring. The CDC recommends, and the Vaccines for Children program mandates, that continuous temperature monitoring occurs via “digital data logger.” Using a detachable probe that “best reflects vaccine temperatures” is also highly recommended.

In clinical settings, buffers play a vital role in ensuring that automatically collected temperature sensor data truly reflects cold storage conditions.

What People are Saying

what people are saying

“Within health care, data must never be lost and transmissions cannot fail. Monnit’s system retains data until transmission is complete and receipt verified. The gateway and sensors ensure transmission occurs, and retains all data until it does. This requires robustness of design and architecture that does not exist elsewhere in the IoT market today.

We’ve worked with Monnit Labs to customize products that met our needs for aesthetics and power conservation requirements. Ultimately, Monnit’s products do not have an equivalent; the differences lie in the sophistication of their design and architecture. For Monnit products, data integrity is always paramount.”

Looking to the Future

Looking to the Future: PoE•X People Counter

airport monitoring Plug-&-Play Foot Traffic Monitoring

A smarter way to manage room occupancy is close at hand with the impending release of Monnit’s PoE•X People Counter. This device mounts in an entryway to detect traffic entering/exiting a room.

The first install will be an airport where it will help operators manage traffic and comply with COVID-19 related occupancy guidelines. Additional applications: schools, entertainment and shopping complexes, public facilities, and more.

A Sense of Personal Security
Monnit’s People Counter is not vision-based like competitive devices. Rather, this PoE device relies on a highly integrated passive infrared array that reliably detects a person’s heat signature. Utilizing multiple pyroelectric sensitive elements and not facial recognition technology, the sensor observes the ingress or egress of heat signatures to track occupant count. It is impossible to store a facial record on Monnit’s device.

In keeping with the user-friendly and economical nature of all Monnit devices, the People Counter does not require specialized installation or an electrical infrastructure—a PoE cable is all that’s needed for installation in smart buildings.

Applications

Rely on Monnit Sensors to be Your Data Center Defenders

The COVID pandemic has changed the way many socialize and do business in 2020, and with that has come the need for quick thinking and change. As companies quickly pivot operations, IT and network support has become all that more critical. With more employees working from home and more families online accessing smart TVs, data centers across the globe have had to boost efforts to support existing customers while adding new ones every day.

Monnit’s Wireless Sensors allow data centers to receive near-instantaneous feedback from sensors, giving insight on asset health and security across the entire network. This support allows managers to make quick decisions before an irregularity becomes a major issue, potentially saving thousands of dollars and excessive time repairing and restoring networks.

wireless sensor applications

Temperature
Avoid network failures from equipment overheating. Get alerts when temperature falls outside the recommended 10° C (50° F) and 20° C (82° F) range.

Humidity
Too much moisture on motherboards and switches can lead to damage, corrosion, and even early system and component failure. Stay ahead of any humidity changes in server rooms.

Water Detection
A water leak in (or above) a server room could result in catastrophe. Be the first to know if the presence of water is detected anywhere near equipment.

Voltage Detection
Keep downtime during a power failure to a minimum—get alerts in changes to your network's power consumption.
