Control Unit - Scheduling a Relay to Turn On or Off using Rules

Control Units feature 2 Relays which can engage third party devices by completing a circuit. In some configurations, a User may wish to trigger the Relays to engage based on a schedule. For example, a Facility Manager may want to turn a boiler on and off on a schedule as it relates to business hours. This is possible in the iMonnit Online Portal by using a Scheduled Rule.

Considering System Actions with Scheduled Rules

Scheduled Rules trigger based on the configured schedule. As such, the Rule is not automatically Disarmed/Rearmed. Either a User will need to manually Disarm/Rearm the Rule each time it is triggered, or a System Action will need to be added to Disarm/Ream the Rule after each time it is triggered. This is included in the steps below for creating the Rule.

Creating the Scheduled Rule

  • Create a new Rule.
  • In the “Choose the Rule Type” dropdown menu, Select “Scheduled Time”.
  • In the “Schedule for” field, enter the time at which you wish the Rule to trigger.
  • Select the Save button.
  • In the “Set Up Tasks” step, select “Command Control Unit”.
  • Select the “+” icon next the Relay of the desired Relays.
  • If a timer is desired, toggle the “Set command timer” to on, and enter the desired time.
  • Select Save.
  • !!Important - Add the System Action by selecting the “Create System Action” button to engage a System Action.
  • Select “Full Reset” for the “Select Type of Action” dropdown selector.
  • Set the “Target Rule” to the {Target Self} to reset the current Rule that we are creating.
  • Set the Delay to “2 Minute Delay” (in order to be sure the logic is executed in a time-considerate manner, a delay should be applied to the System Action).
  • Select the Add button.
  • Select the “Done” button to continue.
  • Select the “I’m done adding tasks” button
  • Add a name to the Rule.
  • Select the Save button.

The Scheduled Rule will be created and trigger the Control Unit relays as configured, then reset itself and rerun every 24 hours.

If you wish to apply a Weekly, Monthly, or custom date-specific schedule

In some cases, a User may wish the Control Unit to engage at specific times on specific days of the Week or specific dates of the year. In this case, you can certainly apply an additional level of scheduling using the Schedule tab of the Rule configuration. This can be accessed after the Rule has been created. You can go into the Rule, and select the Schedule tab (calendar icon), and edit the schedule accordingly.
