Gateways - Auto Reset

Some Monnit gateways offer a feature called Auto Reset which will automatically perform a reboot of the gateway at a configured interval. This can prove especially useful when you are monitoring sensor data that is off-site. If a network issue occurs causing the gateway to go offline, a reboot can often resolve this more quickly which makes this feature useful. The default configuration is 168 hours (1 week).

This feature is supported by the following gateway types:

  • Ethernet Gateway 4
  • LTE Gateways
  • IoT Gateways

Configuring Auto Reset

This feature can be configured in the iMonnit Online Portal or locally on the Ethernet Gateway’s or IoT Gateway’s HTTP Interface. This configuration takes a value in hours, and will execute a reboot of the gateway recurrently with the configured interval frequency.

To configure the Auto Reset interval in iMonnit Online:

  • Log into the iMonnit Online Portal with a User that has the appropriate permissions to configure gateways.
  • Select Gateways in the main navigation menu.
  • Select the desired gateway.
  • Select the Settings tab.
  • Select the Commands sub-tab.
  • Enter the configuration in hours in the Auto Reset (Hours) field.
  • Select the Save button.
    The gateway will accept the changes on its subsequent communication.

To configure the Auto Reset interval in the gateway’s local HTTP Interface (for recent firmware versions):

  • Access the gateway’s IP address through a browser.
  • Select the Settings tab.
  • Select the Miscellaneous tab.
  • Enter the configuration in hours in the Auto Reboot > Auto Reset (hrs) field.
  • Select the Save Changes button.
    The gateway will reboot and apply the configuration.

Consideration when operating with the MODBUS TCP or SNMP Interfaces of the Ethernet Gateway 4

When operating a gateway on a private MODBUS or SNMP network, the Auto Reset configuration can be an important consideration. This is because the values in sensor registers are cleared out when the gateway is rebooted. Therefore if you have a gateway operating on a private MODBUS TCP or SNMP network, and the gateway is rebooting with the default configuration of once per week, you may find that values of 0 are reported for the sensor registers being pulled. This can lead to confusion as for example, if a 0 value is polled for a Temperature sensor reading register, this might lead you to believe the value of 0°C was reported. Therefore you may consider disabling this feature when operating on a private MODBUS TCP or SNMP network.

This will also happen with the Data Expiration timeout has elapsed and no data has been received by the sensor.

Disabling the Auto Reset feature

To disable this feature, you can enter the Auto Reset time to 0.
