Managing Account Hierarchy within iMonnit Online or Enterprise

The iMonnit Online and iMonnit Enterprise allow for an account hierarchy. This hierarchy allows for the management of location or customer accounts within a hierarchy conducive for permissions and account independence.

Note: The permission to view the Admin tab is granted to the Primary Contact of a top-level reseller account by Monnit Administration. By default, this permission is not granted to other Users and can only be changed by Monnit Support (though it may be possible to request such permission by contacting support@monnit.com).

Steps for managing subaccounts

For New Look:

  • Select the Admin tab (generally located as the top option in the left hand navigation menu)
  • Select the All button (displays up to 100 account) or search for an account name or Account ID
  • Select the View Account icon (square with an arrow pointing inside)
  • You will be viewing the subaccount with your top level Reseller permissions
  • From here you can manage the account
  • To exit the account back to the top level Reseller account, select the Admin tab (generally located as the top option in the left hand navigation menu)

For Classic View:

  • Select Administration
  • Select the Show All button (displays up to 100 account) or search for an account name or Account ID
  • Select the “Eye” icon also known as View Account
  • You will be viewing the subaccount with your top level Reseller permissions
  • From here you can manage the account
  • To exit the account back to the top level Reseller account, select the Gear icon > Go Home

Managing a hierarchy vs. creating separate networks

Many customers currently manage locations or customers that have sensor networks by simply creating separate Sensor Networks under a single account. For some customers, this leads to a successful implementation. There are, however, drawbacks to operating in this manner, such as the operational detail that Actions (Notifications) are account wide and not tied to Networks.

Considerations if you are moving from operating with Sensor Networks to subaccount hierarchy

Advantages:

  • Each account has its own autonomy and respects security considerations.
  • You are operating within the hierarchy model Monnit designed for this purpose (and therefore you can allow more autonomy and permissions for the users.
  • Each subaccount can have multiple networks.
  • Upon request, subaccounts can have nested accounts.

Changes:

  • The workflow in managing accounts will change a bit (a few more clicks to access a customer’s devices).
  • There is no manner by which you can move a Network to be a subaccount, so moving devices, configuring user, configuring Actions from the existing account/network to a subaccount will have to be done manually.
  • Each subaccount will require its own Premiere subscription.

Conclusion
