Editor's Note

Now for Something New

Dear Valued Customers and Subscribers,

Welcome to our new semimonthly newsletters. As you can see, we’ve renamed this first newsletter—Monnit News Briefs—plus revised its format and content. We want to quickly give you an insider’s view of what’s happening at Monnit with news and tips you can use in your business.

In addition, on July 21, we’ll send a second newsletter—Monnit: Inside the IoT—that has more of an industry focus. This new newsletter will feature one of our favorite stories with unique insight into the Internet of Things and focus on a vertical market where the IoT is making things better.

We’d appreciate your feedback in the quick survey at the end of each newsletter to let us know how we’re doing. Thank you for following Monnit and letting us share in your success with the IoT.

Best Regards,

Brad Walters

Winning for Water Conservation in Smart Agriculture

Customer needs continue to give Monnit opportunities to be innovative for virtually every industry and stay at the forefront of providing actionable data from the Internet of Things (IoT). Beyond the privilege of delivering on customer expectations, our work has additional benefits—like a 2021 IoT Innovations Award from Connected World magazine.

The judges at Connected World and industry experts recently evaluated the most transformative IoT innovations to hit the market. They awarded Monnit by recognizing our ALTA® Soil Moisture Sensor as a leading solution for smart irrigation and water conservation.

The two-in-one Soil Moisture Sensor works innovatively like a plant’s root. The sensor monitors the energy state of water or soil moisture tension, including the energy a plant exerts to draw available water from the soil. By measuring both soil water potential and temperature, you can know more precisely if your crops are healthy or stressed.

Growers: Get Ready for a New Full-Spectrum Light Sensor

Later this month, Monnit will launch its ALTA® Wireless PAR Light Meter for smart agriculture and agritech precision farming in greenhouses, grow houses, and commercial growing operations. The new industrial and scientific-grade sensor is an essential tool for growers to accurately measure light levels that directly affect plant health and growth.

The term PAR means photosynthetically active radiation or the amount of light available for photosynthesis. So the ALTA PAR Light Meter measures a solar radiation spectrum (from 389 to 692 nanometers) that serves as the ideal light wavelength that most plants need to grow. The meter can monitor all indoor and outdoor light sources and lighting systems, including LEDs.

With the ALTA PAR Light Meter, growers can:

  • Monitor and manage grow lights and lighting system performance to reduce operating costs.
  • Optimize lighting in a variety of growing environments to maximize growth and harvest quality.
  • Track plant light exposure and duration to maintain saturation levels, preventing damage and inhibited growth.

Stay tuned for the full details coming about our ALTA PAR Light Meter.
