Monnit Wins 2023 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award

The ALTA XL® IoT and Ethernet Gateways Honored as Exceptional Innovations for IoT Connectivity

Salt Lake City—July 20, 2023—Monnit announced today that its extended long-range wireless communications solutions—the ALTA XL® IoT and Ethernet Gateways—won a 2023 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award from IoT Evolution World, the leading website covering Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

The award honors the best and most innovative products and solutions powering the Internet of Things. Nominated solutions must have been available for deployment within the past twelve months, as judged by the editors of IoT Evolution World magazine.

"A product of the year award is extra special to us here at Monnit, especially this time for our new ALTA XL Gateways," said Monnit Founder and CEO Brad Walters. "These hubs for extended long-range wireless connectivity were built out of the need to give our customers in nearly every industry the ability to connect their IoT sensor networks in even the most rugged, complex, and remote environments. Thank you for recognizing our commitment to our customers, IoT Evolution World, TMC, and Crossfire Media."

Monnit Extends Long-Range Wireless IoT Communications with ALTA XL IoT and Ethernet Gateways

You need flexible and agile connectivity to take full advantage of the promise of the Internet of Things (IoT)—collect critical data from nearly anything, anytime, anywhere. To accelerate the advancement of IoT data communications from its ALTA® Wireless Sensors, Monnit offers the ALTA XL Wireless IoT and Ethernet Gateways. The gateways feature a powerful wireless transceiver with up to 1-watt transmission strength and an amplified receiver.

They represent the extended long-range wireless evolution of Monnit's proprietary ALTA® Radio platform. This IoT technology allows the new gateways to securely send and receive data communications with ALTA Sensors 2,000+ feet through 18+ walls in commercial, rugged, and remote environments.

Monnit ALTA Gateways and Sensors can communicate up to 1,200+ feet through 12+ walls. So now you can have the versatile capabilities and connectivity of our ALTA Gateways with the increased wireless range of the ALTA XL IoT and Ethernet Gateways.

This flexible connectivity highlights the gateway's versatility and ability to create IoT networks in various commercial, industrial, and remote environments. The ALTA XL Gateways are ideal for remotely monitoring nearly any industry application. You can use the gateways in smart cities, factories, buildings, restaurants, convenience stores, agriculture, petrochemical, field services, and more.

Transmit IoT Data on an Advanced Cellular Engine with Greater Wireless Reach

In addition to the extended wireless range, The ALTA XL IoT Commercial and Industrial Gateways feature 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Category M1 (CAT-M1) and NarrowBand-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) 2 (NB2)—4G LTE CAT-M1/NB2. This cellular technology and a powerful transceiver and receiver ensure resilient long-range IoT data communications on the factory floor, in the office, at remote locations, or where IT infrastructure is dedicated to other resources.

Now the leading standard for cellular IoT networks, 4G LTE moves data packets faster for a more streamlined mobile Internet experience. As the demand increases for IoT sensor data to be processed, aggregated, and transmitted in real time, 4G LTE technologies fulfill this need.

ALTA XL IoT Gateways and the iMonnit® IoT Monitoring and Alert System collaborate to connect and configure up to 100 ALTA Sensors each over the Internet and on low-power, wide-area networks (LPWANs), making their data accessible virtually anytime, anywhere. If user-defined conditions change, the gateways are instrumental in sending sensor notifications via text, email, or voice call.

Combined with its advanced cellular engine and boosted wireless range, the ALTA XL IoT Gateway also features the following:

  • Redundant power with AC and a 60-hour backup battery to continually communicate with iMonnit® via cellular transmission in the event of a power outage
  • An RJ-45 Ethernet jack (commercial version only) for local device configuration
  • Connectivity for industry applications without a wired Internet connection or when infrastructure supports other resources
  • A GNSS location chipset supporting GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS satellites, so when you enable the proper subscription, gateway location data can be collected, viewed, and distributed to additional software via an application programming interface (API)
  • Bank-level security from Encrypt-RF® (Diffie-Hellman 256-bit Key Exchange and AES-128 CBC)
  • Uninterrupted data collection from onboard memory that stores up to 32,000 sensor messages (Data stored during Internet outages is sent when connectivity is restored.)
  • Broad compatibility for global use in bands: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27, 28, 66, 71, and 85
  • A Monnit Global Gateway SIM Card works worldwide to connect to the best cellular network for your location automatically with 5 MB

Seamless Ethernet Data Transmission Over a Stronger Wireless Signal

The ALTA XL Ethernet Gateway allows ALTA Sensors to communicate with iMonnit without needing a PC. Simply provide power and plug the gateway into an open Ethernet port with an Internet connection. It automatically connects with our online servers, providing the perfect solution for Internet-enabled commercial locations.

It's an advanced gateway that fuels fast, reliable IoT data solutions. Specifically designed to respond to the increasing market need for global technology, the ALTA XL Ethernet Gateway easily accommodates various vertical and remote wireless IoT applications.

Built on Monnit’s Secure Long-Range IoT Platform

The ALTA XL IoT and Ethernet Gateways' core is a secure, resilient, long-range wireless data communications platform on the radio frequency-hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). The ALTA XL Gateways connect to ALTA Sensors with frequency interference immunity to protect, aggregate, and communicate sensor data.

They don't run on an off-the-shelf, multi-function operating system. Instead, they operate on a purpose-specific, real-time, embedded state machine. Hackers can't run malicious processes. There are also no active interface listeners they can use to gain access to the gateways over a network. The fortified gateways protect your data from attackers and can't be a relay for malicious programs.

Monnit's sensor-to-gateway, secure wireless tunnel—Encrypt-RF—is generated using Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman 256 (ECDH-256) public key exchange. It's like having robust bank-grade data security during every sensor and gateway communication.

Smart Gateways For Any Industry

ALTA XL IoT and Ethernet Gateways are the perfect data traffic directors. They translate protocols, update sensor settings and firmware, collect and process data, and transmit it to iMonnit and third-party systems. ALTA XL Gateways are the central hubs that fuel the performance of your Monnit IoT network and help you reap the transformative value of its data.

"The solutions selected for the IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award reflect the diverse range of innovation driving the multi-billion dollar IoT market today. It is my honor to congratulate Monnit for their innovative work and superior contribution to the rapidly evolving IoT industry," said Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC, a co-publisher of IoT Evolution.

"It is my pleasure to recognize the ALTA XL IoT and Ethernet Gateways, an innovative solution that earned Monnit the 2023 IoT Evolution Product of the Year Award," said Carl Ford, Community Developer, IoT Evolution World. "I look forward to seeing even more innovation from Monnit in the future."
