A New Edge Gateway is in Development

Everyone who uses the Building Automation and Control Network (BACnet^®) protocol will be excited to know that Monnit is developing its new ALTA^® Edge Gateway. As you may be aware, BACnet is increasingly used in smart buildings to interface and automate connected infrastructures, systems, and equipment.

You can look forward to our redesigned Edge Gateway, which features a high-end single-board computer with multiple built-in options for connectivity and data aggregation. It will serve as a bridge for data from sensors at the edge, spanning various networks and protocols.

The new gateway will include many of the features you previously enjoyed, along with new advancements like BACnet integration that enhance the operation of a sophisticated building management system (BMS), including:

Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol—Connects remote devices that may have resource constraints or limited network bandwidth.
A robust metal housing with an LCD—Features a durable design and a convenient screen for local menu navigation, configuration, and management of the gateway's settings.
Versatile radio platform integration—Offers multiple wireless and Wi-Fi sensor connectivity options besides Monnit's award-winning ALTA^® Wireless and Ethernet and Next™ Wi-Fi Sensors. Our roadmap includes support for LoRa^®, Wi-Fi HaLow™, Amazon Sidewalk™, and other radio links.
Node-RED® low-code programming—Expanded software development kit (SDK) and interface options to integrate with numerous protocols and systems.
Debug interface—Allows you to toggle it on or off based on your security needs and the level of support you require.

A Win For Managing Humidity in Student Housing

Monnit recently received the 2025 IoT Business Impact Award for helping The Turn Company successfully implement an ALTA Wireless Humidity Sensing Solution across a student housing property in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The Turn Co. team collaborated with Monnit to assist property managers in maintaining optimal and safe indoor climate conditions, even when students are not present and during the turn season. This partnership ensures managers have 24/7 oversight of conditions in hundreds of units. Trending data and alerts from ALTA Humidity Sensors are crucial in achieving this.

Ensure Precision with NIST-Traceable Sensor Certification Options

Monnit provides advanced NIST-traceable calibration services for temperature and humidity sensors, including custom multi-point certification up to an 8-point sweep.

You can specify calibration points, and we’ll coordinate with our ISO/IEC 17025-accredited testing lab to provide time and cost estimates for custom calibration services. Meet compliance and quality assurance standards across diverse applications with our NIST certification services.

In the Monnit Knowledgebase article, “What to Know About Monnit NIST-Traceable Sensors,” we outline our device data point certification process.

Options include:

3-point calibration sweeps for standard temperature non-leaded and leaded (submersible), low-temperature, and humidity sensors.
Verified calibration accuracy across critical ranges using NIST-traceable equipment and methods.
Certified intervals vary by sensor type—ranging from 7 to 25 months—and include temperature tolerance levels and relative humidity (RH) limits.

Pro Tip: Certification confirms accuracy only at the time of calibration, so maintaining confidence in your sensor data requires periodic recertification.
