New Ethernet Gateways Fuel Scalable Wireless IoT
As IoT deployments expand, managing thousands of sensors shouldn’t require complex networks, manual configuration, or constant oversight. The new ALTA® Ethernet Gateway 4K and ALTA XL® Ethernet Gateway 4K are built to simplify large-scale monitoring while delivering the capacity and reliability modern operations demand.
Each gateway supports up to 4,000 ALTA® Wireless Sensors within a single logical network and can communicate with up to 1,000 sensors simultaneously through the iMonnit™ platform. This high-capacity design allows organizations to scale confidently—without segmenting deployments or adding multiple gateways.
Designed for true plug-and-play deployment, both gateways connect via Ethernet and automatically integrate into iMonnit—no local servers, PCs, or manual setup required. For organizations using iMonnit Enterprise, the new gateways seamlessly integrate into existing large-network and sensor-fleet management environments, enabling centralized control, advanced reporting, and custom integrations at scale.
Key advantages of the ALTA and ALTA XL Ethernet Gateways 4K include:
- Support for up to 4,000 sensors per network, with 1,000 active at a time.
- Seamless operation with iMonnit Premiere, Enterprise, and custom integrations for large deployments.
- Long-range wireless performance with Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) and Encrypt-RF™ Security.
- Over-the-air updates and future-ready architecture.
- Plug-and-play Ethernet connectivity with no PC required.
The ALTA Ethernet Gateway 4K delivers reliable performance and connectivity for enterprise facilities. At the same time, the ALTA XL Ethernet Gateway 4K extends wireless range even further for expansive campuses, warehouses, and fleets. Both models are optimized for cloud-based monitoring, removing unnecessary local interfaces to maximize memory, performance, and scalability.
The gateways are ideal for monitoring school districts, manufacturing operations, logistics, or distributed infrastructure. The ALTA and ALTA XL Ethernet Gateways 4K provide a powerful foundation for modern IoT—combining high capacity, simplified management, and enterprise-grade reliability in a single, scalable solution.

Coming In February: New Removable NIST-Certified Sensor Leads
This month, Monnit will launch a new generation of removable, swappable leads for select ALTA® Standard and Low Temperature and Humidity Sensors. These new leads are designed for applications that require certified accuracy and repeatable calibration, giving customers a more efficient way to maintain compliance without replacing entire sensors.
Each lead is uniquely calibrated to recognize industry references, including standards associated with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) traceability. Instead of uninstalling and shipping a full sensor for recalibration, users can detach only the lead, submit it for recertification, and install a freshly calibrated replacement in minutes. This approach keeps monitoring programs running while reducing downtime and labor.
The removable lead design uses an M8 6-pin connector for quick field changeouts. Built-in memory within the lead head stores the sensor’s unique identity and calibration profile, ensuring certification and traceability data stay with the lead rather than the wireless sensor body. This supports audit-readiness and quality programs aligned with regulatory frameworks such as FDA 21 CFR Part 11.
Accredited lab partner Sensor Calibrations will provide NIST-traceable certificates of accuracy for the new leads:
- 25-month certificates for ALTA Standard Temperature Sensor leads
- 13-month certificates for ALTA Low Temperature and Humidity Sensor leads
We engineered the removable-lead format to streamline compliance workflows and simplify ongoing sensor validation compared to traditional fixed-probe or leaded devices that must be entirely removed and reinstalled for service.
Key advantages include:
- Faster recalibration by swapping only the lead instead of the full sensor
- NIST-traceable calibration records stored directly in the lead head
- Reduced disruption to installed monitoring points
- Easier certification management and audit documentation
- Greater flexibility across validated environments
These smart, swappable leads mark another step forward in our push toward more serviceable, compliance-friendly IoT sensing, helping teams maintain accuracy while keeping systems continuously online.

March 1: 2FA to be a Non-Negotiable iMonnit Standard
Did you know that, according to the Verizon 2025 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), approximately 88% of web application attacks involve stolen or weak credentials?
As a cloud application, iMonnit is accessible from nearly any device and location, presenting a massive attack surface that passwords alone cannot fully protect. A common best practice proven to improve security for anyone using any online service or app is to add another authentication method to account access.
On March 1, we will remove the opt-out option for two-factor authentication (2FA) for devices accessing iMonnit. Current 2FA users won’t notice a change or have to reset security features. However, for every iMonnit user, in addition to your email address and password, 2FA will be mandatory—every 90 days per device—with the ability to choose authentication via email, SMS, or an authenticator app.
After the first factor—your email address and password—iMonnit will prompt you to authenticate your identity with a second factor.
Here’s more information about how iMonnit 2FA works:
- Reminder: Any device you use to access iMonnit only requires 2FA once every 90 days.
- Manage 2FA settings in the user profile section of iMonnit, then select your preferred 2FA option.
- By default, iMonnit will send a code via email or text message, depending on your notification or alert settings.
- Or use the authenticator app you already have, or download an app to scan a QR code or enter the app-generated code in iMonnit.
Thank you in advance for continually helping us avoid risking security for convenience.
