Our Environmental Monitoring Solution Honored for Enabling the Next Generation of Connected Cities

SALT LAKE CITY—October 28, 2025—Monnit announced today that its Environmental Monitoring Solution has once again received a 2025 Smart City Product of the Year Award from the Smart City Sentinel and IoT Evolution World, the leading website covering IoT technologies and business strategies.

The award recognizes the most innovative products and solutions advancing the Internet of Things (IoT) and enabling the next generation of connected cities.

"We're committed to helping create better cities and communities with IoT technologies," said Monnit Founder and CEO Brad Walters. "Winning this prestigious award for a second year is a great honor for us as we aim to power and expand more smart city initiatives and deployments."

"Our Smart City Environmental Monitoring Solutions provide critical data on climate conditions, energy, water, HVAC system performance, and more for smart city projects, assisting business leaders in making data-driven decisions," Walters said. "It's exciting to help make their buildings and cities more conservation-focused and efficient."

Make City Spaces Comfortable and Safe for People

Many Monnit ALTA® Wireless IoT Sensors and ALTA XL® Gateways, when reporting through iMonnit™ Cloud Monitoring Software, provide excellent real-time environmental and energy monitoring for smart cities. The Monnit Smart City Environmental Monitoring Solution can deliver data for any smart city facility and indoor environment.

This data can help leaders easily create smart buildings to spot potential problems with climate, plumbing, power, asset tracking, and HVAC system performance before they become serious issues.

Promote Uptime in Smart Cities

With the Monnit Smart City Environmental Monitoring Solution, you can adopt a proactive, predictive, and preventative approach to address threats to productive smart city spaces. Here are some of our industrial and enterprise sensors, gateways, and management software included in the smart city solution that enable this.

An IoT network of ALTA Sensors can enable predictive maintenance and diagnostics, helping to keep indoor environments healthy and energy-efficient. With these IoT devices, buildings become smarter, continuously providing data on climate, energy, and HVAC performance.

sensors for smart cities

ALTA Standard Temperature Sensor—Track and chart your HVAC system's fluctuating atmosphere throughout your facilities. This versatile sensor, featuring a waterproof lead that extends up to 100 feet, can measure temperatures of almost anything, anywhere. Measure a range from -40°C to 125°C (-40°F to 257°F).

ALTA Humidity Sensor—The scientific-grade sensor remotely monitors relative humidity (RH) with a +/- 3% accuracy (between 10–90% RH), temperature, and dew point in facilities. It's available in wireless and PoE options and will instantly alert you via text, push notification, email, or call.

ALTA Water Detection Sensors—The Water Detection Puck, Water Detect Plus, and Water Rope Sensor can help prevent damage from plumbing and cooling system leaks. Our Water Detection Sensors can also help keep employees and customers safe from slips and falls.

ALTA Air Velocity Sensor—To determine airflow speed and building or room pressure from an HVAC system, the sensor measures the pressure difference between input ports, ambient temperature, and altitude. If air velocity deviates from a preset threshold, get an instant alert.

ALTA Air Quality Sensor—Detect particulate matter (PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 concentrations in your facilities. Ensure your occupants' safety by monitoring air quality. If coarse, fine, or ultrafine particles are detected in the air, the sensor will prompt an instant text, email, push notification, or voice call.

ALTA Smart Thermostat—This thermostat prevents tampering because there are no buttons. By setting it remotely, it'll use its motion sensor to detect occupancy and adjust accordingly. This way, you'll conserve energy and potentially save on costs.

ALTA Duct Temperature Sensor—Keep a sealed environment and easily monitor HVAC performance and ductwork temperatures. The sensor uses a probe to measure a range of -40°C to 150°C (-40°F to 302°F) and features a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor.

ALTA AC Current Meter—Analyze HVAC system power consumption and predict problems before they occur. Knowing the minimum, maximum, and average current use, expressed as root-mean-square (RMS) and amp-hours, helps you manage energy-saving performance and power supply issues.

ALTA Three-Phase Current Meter—Clip the meter's current transformers (CTs) to each phase of your three-phase electrical system to track power consumption, power system faults, and balanced failover to backup systems in the event of a heat-related blackout or brownout.

ALTA Differential Air Pressure Sensor—Remotely monitors filtration, HVAC performance, and components by measuring the air pressure difference between this sensor's dual ports. It will immediately alert you if there is a pressure differential from preset parameters in iMonnit.

ALTA Motion+ Temperature and Humidity Sensor—Streamline monitoring with our three-in-one sensor. Immediately determine if someone has entered a restricted area using passive infrared technology. Monitor movement and occupancy, ambient temperature, and relative humidity.

Extend Data Communications with ALTA XL IoT and Ethernet Gateways

To accelerate the advancement of IoT data communications from its ALTA Wireless Sensors, Monnit offers the ALTA XL Wireless IoT and Ethernet Gateways. They represent the extended long-range wireless evolution of Monnit's proprietary ALTA Radio platform.

Securely send and receive data communications with ALTA Sensors 2,000+ feet through 18+ walls. This flexible connectivity underscores the gateway's versatility in establishing IoT networks across various environments, including commercial, industrial, and remote settings.

Easily Manage and Integrate an IoT Energy Management System

We offer multiple versions of iMonnit, so you can monitor smart city operations however, whenever, and wherever you want. Use the iMonnit Basic or Premiere SaaS Software as an Energy Management System (EMS). For robust environmental monitoring, sensor configuration, data analysis, and network management, we provide iMonnit Premiere, Enterprise, and Express. Any iMonnit version easily integrates with a Facility Maintenance Management System (FMMS) and a Building Management System (BMS).

"The solutions selected for the Smart City Product of the Year Award reflect the diverse range of innovation driving the multi-billion-dollar IoT market today. It is my honor to congratulate Monnit for their innovative work and superior contribution to the rapidly evolving IoT industry," said Rich Tehrani, CEO of TMC, a co-publisher of IoT Evolution World.

"It is my pleasure to recognize the Monnit Environmental Monitoring Solution, an innovative solution that earned Monnit the 2025 Smart City Product of the Year Award," Carl Ford, Community Developer, IoT Evolution World. "I look forward to seeing even more innovation from Monnit in the future."
