Monnit Wins 2023 IoT Global Award for Helping Save Babies in Sub-Saharan African NICUs

IoT Global Award Winner

Medical Device Monitoring Solution Connects to the Internet of Things (IoT) to Deliver High-Quality Neonatal Healthcare Where It’s Needed Most

SALT LAKE CITY & LONDON, UK—Monnit is a 2023 IoT Global Awards winner for its work with an international coalition improving neonatal healthcare outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. Infants born in sub-Saharan Africa are 10 times more likely to die during the first month of life than those born in high-income countries.

However, Monnit and integration partners—3rd Stone Design and Hadleigh Health Technologies—are improving medical device use in African neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The companies collaborate with Newborn Essential Solutions and Technologies, or NEST360, to provide, monitor, and service critical NICU equipment.

Monnit IoT technologies are featured in a connected system that monitors life-sustaining neonatal medical devices to help ensure they provide proper and timely care. Read the whole story about this project in the case study.

“It’s an honor to win this prestigious award,” said Nick Mecham, Monnit VP of Business Development. “It’s gratifying to see IoT sensing solutions and cloud-based software involved in such an important project to help reduce the vulnerabilities experienced by newborns in these countries. We dedicate this award to the healthcare professionals worldwide leading this mission and the organizations that support them.”

Monnit won the IoT Global Award after being recognized as a finalist with 10 other international IoT companies in the Connected Health or Wearable Tech category. The IoT Global Awards are organized by WeKnow Media Ltd—the owner of award-winning IoT, high-tech, and telecom media—and are known as the industry’s benchmark for excellence in IoT, honoring the most innovative IoT companies and products. More than 150 entries were submitted this year across 11 IoT industry categories.

WeKnow Media’s announcement celebrated Monnit and other winners: “We salute your ideas, hard work, and applications of IoT-enabled services to improve lives worldwide. It really is that simple: You make all our lives better. In 2023 we can say for certain that the Internet of Things has never been more important.”
